Old Gold Cafe are Sample Coffee specialists in a tucked-away corner off Dangar Street, Chippendale. Nestled in The Chocolate Factory, a historic Chippendale Artists’ commune and studio labyrinth now home to start-ups and more, Old Gold Cafe’s City of Sydney-supported barricades permit al fresco dining and a peak at Lisa Sammut’s works. Named after the Old Gold chocolate once distributed from the site, pop in for Lisa Sammut’s latest and some stories via The Shae and The Grae

Lisa Sammut, currently based in Canberra, develops Art across installation, video and sculpture. Having undertaken a series of residences in Iceland and France, Lisa Sammut is a graduate of UNSW Art & Design where her work can be viewed. Lisa Sammut’s ‘Time Forms’ surrounds Old Gold Cafe via the Creative Concrete Initiative (extract below) whereby cafes and bars can apply to expand outdoor dining areas with contemporary Australian Artists’ works adorning the concrete safety barriers

“Time Forms considers the many modes and versions of time unfolding: lunar, solar, geological, astronomical and cosmic. Created using collage and photographs of small hand-painted models, wooden sculptures and prop-like objects, the work is a landscape panorama of mineral formations, tectonic forces and planetary movements. Time Forms examines our place in the earth’s history by linking concepts of cosmic time and space to the graspable dimensions of the handmade. Seen as the public go about their daily routines, it calls for a change of perspective – even if for just a moment in time”
